Last week, from February 12th to February 19th, Voka Oost-Vlaanderen visited Boston & New York. The mission, led by Vice Mayor Mathias De Clercq and with the support of IMEC and Flanders Investment and Trade, had the aim to raise the profile of the city of Ghent in the United States.

About 50 business leaders, technology startups and researchers joined the mission to the East Coast of the USA. It is not a coincidence the delegation visited Boston and New York. These two cities are the most innovative technology hubs in the world, after Silicon Valley in California.

The General Delegation of the Government of Flanders to the USA also facilitated a visit with Mr. Wu Hongbo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs for Vice Mayor De Clercq. They talked about the implementation of the Global Sustainable Development Goals and the UN's New Urban Agenda.

Managing-Director of Voka, Geert Moerman was pleased with the visit. “We visited American multinationals like Selecta Biotech, Microsoft, Google and Staples. Flemish companies that are active in New York and Boston, for example Twikit, Seaters and Greenpan accompanied the visits. The group also met with Flemish top researchers at the Universities of Harvard, MIT and Cornell.”
